While there can be no two opinions about the threat emanating from Islamic fascism, we should also bear in mind that the west is not a paragon of virtue. There is no such thing as an absolute right of freedom of expression. All freedoms come with responsibilities and reasonable restrictions. My freedom of expression does not extend to abusing my neighbours parents. There is an undercurrent of cultural superiority and an inherent tendency to treat non western people as savages and their cultures as primitive. They have no sense of the sacred. So, they find it hard to grasp why people can get agitated about gratuitous insult to what they regard as precious and sacred. What else explains the repeated stories from the west of use of Hindu images on footwear, toilet seats etc. ?
