While we were helping pets rescued from the Manatee County shelter - TopicsExpress

While we were helping pets rescued from the Manatee County shelter meet their new fur-ever families, this comment was posted on the SNKMC FB page: "Hate to tell you but Pam and I are perfectly happy with 8 a.m. AS closes at 5pm, so they used to do it around 4 or so, thereby allowing US and any potential adopters to sometimes see a dog being taken out back. WE mentioned something to them about it, and the time was changed to 8 a.m. so no volunteers are inside at that time." We find this comment to be offensive, and to our knowledge, incorrect. Every Thursday, our supporters work throughout the night networking dogs. If an 8AM kill time would have been in effect this past Friday (9-6-13), then the dogs who were adopted, or pulled by a rescue on Friday morning/early afternoon would be dead. Instead, they are alive. We will never find it acceptable to impose an arbitrary kill deadline and choose KILLING OVER AN ADOPTION OR RESCUE!!!!!! NOR, do we think the killing should be HIDDEN FROM THE PUBLIC or VOLUNTEERS. Hiding the killing perpetuates the myth that MCAS is a no kill shelter.
