While work crews have been removing work zone traffic restrictions - TopicsExpress

While work crews have been removing work zone traffic restrictions along Interstate 24 between the 86 and 93 mile marker in Christian County whenever possible over weekends through the summer months, state transportation officials say, due to rain delays, the contractor on the project plans to leave the work zone up and active this weekend. On Saturday, concrete work will continue along the eastbound lanes of this work zone along with various other construction activities. On Sunday, diamond grinding will start along the westbound lanes of this work zone. Transportation officials note that the work activity and associated lane restrictions may create traffic congestion for both eastbound and westbound motorists along I-24 this weekend, between the Fort Campbell Boulevard exit and the Kentucky-Tennessee line, near the 93-mile marker. Officials say traffic issues are most likely to occur along the eastbound lanes on Friday from about 3:00pm to about 7:00pm, when there is a surge in eastbound traffic all along I-24. To avoid delays, local motorists and commercial vehicles that normally travel this busy section of I-24 are being advised to consider an alternate route during peak travel periods. Transportation officials say about 37,000 vehicles travel this section of I-24 in an average day.
