Whispering Travels PROVERBS 10:11-23 I read with some interest - TopicsExpress

Whispering Travels PROVERBS 10:11-23 I read with some interest that St. Paul’s Cathedral in London has an interesting architectural phenomenon called “The Whispering Gallery.” It is explained this way: the name comes from the fact that a person who whispers facing the wall on one side can be clearly heard on the other side since the sound is carried perfectly around the vast curve of the dome. In other words, you and a friend can sit on opposite sides of this great cathedral and carry on a conversation without having to speak above a whisper. That is fascinating to me. It is also a warning to us. What we say about others in secret can travel about as easily as whispers travel around that gallery. And not only can our words and our gossip travel far and wide, often it does great harm along the way. God’s wisdom constantly reminds us to be careful with our words. Proverbs 10:19 says, “Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible, and keep your mouth shut.” That’s some pretty good advice. Instead of whispering and gossiping that can cause hurt and pain while serving no useful purpose whatsoever, we might all do better to restrain ourselves and practice silence. Someone once said, “Gossip ends at a wise person’s ears.” Be careful with what you say today. - Dr. Tim Thompson
