Who are our military rifle fans here, or the curio and relic - TopicsExpress

Who are our military rifle fans here, or the curio and relic brigade? I do have a soft spot for seeing how modern rifles as we know them evolved, and how different countries experimented with actions and cartridges to accomplish their needs. Its pretty neat fun taking a step back too, to a time when a rifle butt was for close combat rather than recoil reduction, and cartridges were made man (hunting) size. Not too much varminting potential with those open sights and fairly sizeable bullets, but a whole lot of fun just the same. This is one of 37,000,000 Mosin Nagants produced since 1891, with a production date of 1935. Therefore its the most common variant, an 1891/30. So, not a unique snow flake, but an interesting one just the same amongst the racks of modern, more synthetic sporting arms. This rifle was a restoration that was ended half way through, due to the restorers concerns about external corrosion on the barrel and subsequent safety when firing. Evidently a barrel popping was less worrisome than that Commissar behind you questioning your commitment to the Great Patriotic War ... not such a concern these days though. Still, it makes a pleasant wall hanger, and will tide me over til I get that K-31 organised ...
