Who blames President GEJ for our insecurity? As a product of a faculty that train change agents, we were taught that you help people to help themselves, and that no sustainable change can be made without the participation of the people that want the change. Its in respect of this that I found this article necessary. Its quite indisputable that many of us find it very easy casting blames on our government for their failure to provide adequate security, especially in times of crisis, when ourselves cant claim pulchritude unblemished in this putrid incidentals. Let truth be told, governments effort will continue to be an exercise in futility if we dont wake up to take care of our securities ourselves. We dont care about our security but we expect the government to. Let me cite some instances of security consciouslessness. Almost all the streets in my area have people from Nige republic (those Hausa_like people) as security guards that mount the main entrance, no one cares to know their details, all we care is getting someone who opens and closes the gate in the morning/night and each time vehicles need to pass, and in these streets are the learned ones that can blow big grammars when it comes to blaming the president on national insecurity. Charity, they say, begins at home. Sometimes I wonder how stupid we are entrusting our security in the hands of a cynical stranger! Just this last weekend, I took a cab in company of my wife, there was a heavy traffic and in the drivers attempt to escape the hold up, he took a short cut, and in that process, we got to an estate with a closed gate, the security man came out and before he talked, the driver extended his hand, and without any verbal interaction, the security man went back and opened the gate, we passed and left through the terminal end of the estate. I shook my head and looked at the driver, and what came out of his mouth was Oga, na nija we dey o. And truly, Its nija, where through our corrupt tendencies, all things are possible. My dear patriots, this is a clarion call to our security consciousness, Its high time we see our security as our personal/individual responsibility. No one is vindicating the government for their inadequacies and failures, but can our criticism brings back the lost lives? Its expedient to note that Soka forest in Ibadan would have continue to exist, if not for the security consciousness of the person that suspected the atrocities and involved others of like minds to burst the area. Our security is our responsibility, if we dont take care of ourselves, who will??
