Who can forget Katherine Hepburn and Peter OToole (not to mention Timothy Dalton and a pudgy Anthony Hopkins) in the Lion in Winter, the story of Eleanor of Aguitaine, perhaps the most formidable woman in European politics ever and the wife and mother of English kings. Her daughter and son-in-law founded the Cistertian Convent Santa María la Real de Las Huelgas in Spain. The abbess of same had enormous power and was the defacto bishop of over 50 villages. The nuns wrote a unique Polyphonic music (usually forbidden to religious orders) that was rediscovered in the last century. I am listening to it now.
