Who in Manitowoc remembers this ship? The Edward L Ryerson its the last one Manitowoc Shipbuilding built here in Manitowoc WI. It is said to be the gem of all the ships built by Manitowoc Shipbuilding. Several years ago it was docked at Sturgeon Bay just sitting ideal for years. Then moved to Superior Wisconsin where it is just sitting as well ideal. This would for sure be a center piece of Manitowoc if brought back here The reason why its not used any more is it is not a self unloading ship equipped with a conveyer to discharge its cargo. I mean just think of all the tourists who would come and tour the largest and last ship built from Manitowoc WI. A ideal place for it to be displayed would be right here in Manitowoc WI on site side of the S10th Street bridge. Its really unknown the fate of this remarkable ship. It might end up meeting with the cutting torches being cutup and scrapped out.
