Who is our worst enemy??? One might look to the Human shayateen and the Jinn shayateen. But, those are external enemies, that have no control over you! When they harm you, you will be rewarded. How about our internal enemy, the inner you? Our Hawa, that very desire that controls you, that very desire that you worship instead of Allaah SWT? That very desire that you give in to, and ultimately drags you away from Allaah SWT, from the Obedience of Allaah SWT? Allah said: Have you (O Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) seen him who has taken his ilahah (god) as his own desire? Would you be then a Wakeel (a protecting guide) over him? Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle. Nay, they are even farther astray from the Path (i.e. even worst than cattle). [Soorah al-Furqaan (25): 43-44] The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: The most dreadful thing I fear in regard to you is the deductive lusts in your bellies and in you private parts, and the misleading ways of al-Hawaa. [Musnad Ahmad] Imam Ibn al-Qayyim writes in his book, A Chapter on the Dispraise of al-Hawaa, It is feared that he who follows al-Hawaa may become altogether detached from Eeman (faith) while being unaware. In fact, it has been confirmed that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: None of you is a true believer until his Hawaa (desires) is in accordance with what I have brought forth. [Shaikh Naseeruddin al-Albanee has declared this Hadeeth as weak, see his comments on at-Tabreezees Mishkaatul Masaabeeh v. 1, p.59] The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: The most dreadful thing I fear in regard to you is the deductive lusts in your bellies and in you private parts, and the misleading ways of al-Hawaa. [Musnad Ahmad] Desire is poverty and despair is enrichment and if one of you were to despair something, he would become free of it. Umar Ibn Khattab May Allaah SWT protect us from our own Hawaa (desires) ameen!
