Who knew that one of our members had such a way with words.... The Fire Fighters Lament. The press report the people’s fright, that half the state is well alight. The RFS will swing into action, and emergency measures they will sanction. Our phones ring and pagers clamour, the shout is raised, for those of valour. The need is great so heed the call, we’re in this together, one and all. Too slow to the phone and you’ll be beat, you’ll miss your spot, in a coveted seat. To be left behind is the worst of fates, all alone, without your mates. You’ll curse the boss or blame the wife, cos you’re so pissed off with your busy life. It just aint fair, its just not right, that you’ll miss out, on this fire fight. They’ll be hot and bothered and filthy black, they’ll be utterly beat when they hit the sack. They’ll be fed a diet of BBQ snags, and living out of an overnight bag. They’ll be moved around from pillar to post, and of being ill used, they’ll proudly boast. Who knows they might even see some fire, if it comes to that, then things are dire! You wish them well as they drive away, then look to the heavens, and start to pray. I want to be, with that merry band, four days away, would do me grand. Aaron P
