Who we are - The Lumber Heritage Region of Pennsylvania (LHR) is a 15 county regional non-profit organization in North Central Pennsylvania, with the mission to preserve, relate, and enhance the history and heritage of the people and their relationship with Pennsylvania’s forests- with the end result being an enhanced quality of life for those who live here and a value laden asset for those who visit. One of the Commonwealth’s twelve Heritage Areas, it was designated in 2001 by Governor Thomas Ridge. Since then, the LHR has worked to develop and implement projects that connect people to the forests and rivers, tell the great stories of the region’s history and heritage, and build awareness of our working forest’s value as a tourism venue, a recreation destination, and a marketable, job sustaining, resource. To date over $1M of grant funds have been leveraged into more than $3M in project investments in local communities throughout the Region.
