Whoa Nelly! The Knight School had an intense mountaintop - TopicsExpress

Whoa Nelly! The Knight School had an intense mountaintop experience this weekend as 62 of our most focused players descended on the University of Montevallo for the 2014 Alabama State Chess Championship! This tourney was not for the faint of heart as it seemed like half the people in attendance had two private chess coaches and a very focused expression! As you can see from this picture, our kids were equally focused: focused on Junkfood mountain, having a great time, and making closer chess friends! When the dust cleared, it turns out we were focused on chess, too, because 27 of this fun band of Knight School chess friends had come in first, second, or third in the State in their respective divisions. Heartwarming back story: A few weeks back The Knight School Vestavia East had an early Friday dismissal and actually drove over and raided their friendly rivals, The Knight School Mountain Brook, with a fun surprise challenge chess match. On Sunday, these two mega-teams tore through the field and found themselves facing off in the final round of the State Championship. The teams played to a 2-2 tie in this electric final round for all the marbles! Congratulations to The Knight School Mountain Brook Elementary who came in second in the State and congratulations to The Knight School Vestavia East for becoming the 2014 Alabama State Champions. All the kids had a great fun experience this weekend and TKS has now lived the dream of officially coining a new term: State Champion fourpeters!
