Who: Pixie Rita (I think Ill invent a sassy drink of that name for her) How: Growing up, I formed the concept of generosity--helping people and/or a blend of the two via hospitality as being rooted in monetary means; in producing tangible proof of said action/effort. As a result, far too many times Id look at my bank balance & determine I couldnt do something--and Id feel crappy and stingy (despite the $0.78 ledger balance reality) and sad because my heart and spirit truly wanted to give and stinginess is not a descriptor of my heart. THEN came Pixie, who had shown great generosity towards me individually and to countless others around her/us, and this is the conversation we had several years back: Me, I wish I had the financial means to do more for people. Pixie, Be generous without money, Julie. Me, Eh, thats lame. (Thats my former Generosity Worldview talking.) Pixie, Let me ask you this...what would you do if the phone rang and it was Joyce Meyers calling to speak with you? Me, Well.... (We dont necessarily see eye-to-eye regarding all teachers.) Pixie, Okay, lets say it was Ravi Zacharias on the phone. What would you think? Me, Id be thrilled. Pixie, Oh, who are you kidding? Youd be blown away that he took the time to call (Thoughtful pause and eye contact), Julie, there are women who, if you called or wrote or contacted in some form or fashion, would be thrilled to hear from you as well. Me, You think? Pixie, I know. Me, (Former Generosity Worldview imploding) Pixie, Be generous out of your gifting, Julie, money is the easiest and sometimes least thoughtful manner to do so; God has given you a Voice, Julie, a presence, dont discount its wealth. And thats what Ive been intent on doing ever since. Be it a FB Happy YOUDay! greeting, sharing baked goods, making random phone calls and what-not, or working on the details in which I can share with women a slice of #Solace which I discovered as the result of other womens generosity.
