Ok all why we really need God. On the top of your head can you recall 3 times we are compared to sheep in the bible...think about it...Of all the following I learned several of these things when we had sheep on our farm in Muenster and the really good ones from my uncle Chris Hess while working the graveyard shift for Muenster drilling. Most of you know Chris is the pied piper (spelling) in Muenster. Did u think of three yet ok here are some of them1. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, 2. The separation of the sheep and goats, 3. Lamb of God in reference to Jesus, 4. The lost sheep out of 99, and my favorite especially for what I am about to say is 5. Jesus looked at the crowd and wept for they were like sheep with out a shepherd. Ok so how are we like sheep. First off let me say I have never seen a more ignorant stupid animal. Remember we are compared to them. 1. They are extremely followers even to the point of death. Chris told me that he knows a man who is raised sheep near the red river. One of his sheep decided to go off a cliff and fall appox. 70 feet to its death. Of course when you get one to go they all follow so then one by one the sheep all walked off the cliff to their death. The owner had to run to his pickup grab his gun run back and shoot the next one in line to go over the cliff. Once he shot that sheep it fell over on the hill right before taking the plunge consequently they all stop going over the hill. Another number 1. At the Nasche farm we had to put them up in the barn every night before we had the right fencing to keep out the coyotes or they would be attacked every night. Of course if you could ever get just one of them started toward the barn it was the easiest job in the world they would all walk single file in line straight to the barn. We had about 100 of them all walking in a single line pretty cool sight. Well on rare occasions the first one comes up on a Jack Rabbit and gets a little spooked so it jumps off the path in fear and in trying to avoid the jack rabbit. Of course this scares the rabbit and it hurries away. I kid you not at that exact spot 99 times in a row each sheep jumps off the path. Even though the rabbit has been gone for all the rest they still jump in the same place. Believe me it is as funny as can be watching them do that gave me a lot of humor when I was younger. Ok now to compare it to humans since this is a hard lesson that might upset some people I will pick on myself. I was never a follower when I was younger right? Wrong had to have bell bottom pants come on mom everyone has a pair. That in itself is funny now how many times have we ever told our parents come one I need this or that because everyone has it. My son now uses that same argument with me. Obviously we all hardly ever want to be single out for anything granted when we all mature and get more confident that fear goes away some but it is a human characteristic too. Since this is getting a little long I will give you 1 more and 5 more later. Ok point #2 sheep cant see what is right in front of them. Mr Tisdale the Vet in Muenster when I was growing up told uncle Chris this one. Another sheep owner was selling all of his sheep at the local sell on Saturday so he rounded all of his sheep up and brought them on Monday several days before the sell so Doctor Tisdale had time to check all of them to make sure they were healthy. This took place in the heat of the summer in Texas we all know how hot it can get. Later in the week one of the sheep fell over dead. Doctor Tisdale did an autopsy and found out the sheep died from dehydration. In the lot there was a low rim water trough right in the pen. How could that have happened. It was low enough for all of them to see and it is right there in there pen. The next day another one died of dehydration. Really yes Really So Dr. Tisdale called the owner and asked how he watered his sheep. The owner told the doctor mostly from the red river. So Dr. Tisdale went home took of the motor on his fishing boat brought it back to the sell barn put it in the stock tank of water in the pen with the sheep. Started up the motor to get the water circulating and instantly the mob of sheep came running to drink. Crazy right now how is that similar to us Humans...How about God in general how can he be right in front of people and we still refuse to believe. How about a math problem the numbers are all right there in front of us but we cannot see how to solve the problem. How many marriages fail when we cant see the signs from our significant other and they are right there in front of you. How about the true presence in the Eucharist and so many people think it is only symbolic. So far not a pretty picture but it is all true 5 more example coming later my advice is to pray harder every day so we wont be like those stupid sheep.
