Ok, I didnt really know the rules of this interesting things fad when I liked the status of probably the most interesting facebook friend I have--the multi-continental, multi-lingual, avalanche-surviving-adventurer Konrad Kijewski. He gave me the number 5, so Ill play along trying to remember its not a competition... 1. I had no idea I would pursue medical school when I started college, no idea I would become an anesthesiologist when I started med school, no fn clue Id like pain medicine and pursue a fellowship when I started anesthesia residency, and no idea where I would end up when I moved away for fellowship, but I feel like I ended up right where Im supposed to be. I have a great job in a great hospital system and still sometimes wonder just how I got here. 2. There are about 5 people on the planet who really know my full given name. Its a perfectly good name, but for some reason my parents or sister or some random jackass started calling me Tig when I was in diapers and that was that. I eventually had such a hard time learning who the hell Daniel Scott Reynolds was that I earned myself a hearing test when I was in kindergarten. No one bothered even trying to end the nickname after that. 3. As a high school senior, some of my classmates and I started an effort (beginning as a class project) to introduce legislation in Kentucky that would put a bottle bill in place (think the nickel deposit on drink containers that they have in Michigan and elsewhere, refer to a Seinfeld episode for detailed info from Kramer). The measure failed, but the brief statewide media blowout made us minor celebrities for a while, and the effort eventually got us an award from the Clinton white house and the EPA. 4. As a med student and resident, I sang in a band with a bunch of friends. SnapGauge was responsible for some of the best times Ive ever had. We played a bar in Louisville several times in exchange for a few pennies and some beer. That was a blast. Our lineup was a bit of a revolving door but included myself, John Huff, Kelly Scott Franklin, John Franklin, Darel Barnett, Aaron K. Compton, John Loughran, and pretty much anybody else that wanted to pick and grin for a while. 5. I met my knockout wife Becca Reynolds on a blind date that neither of us wanted to go on. We were forced into it, I tell you! But I think I knew the moment I saw her that I would marry her--if shed have me.
