Why Do You Speak To Yourself With Your INNER VOICE When You Are - TopicsExpress

Why Do You Speak To Yourself With Your INNER VOICE When You Are Reading Or Thinking ? I never read in any scientific article, or even heard in any ordinary conversation, someone talking about this phenomenon before. Since I am interested about all our subjective phenomena related to consciousness, I am trying to get experiential corroboration from other people about what I introspectively experience myself. However, I today found some articles talking about it. One of the authors, Peter Moseley, and his predecessor, Lev Vygotsky, hypothesized that the inner speech evolved through the internalization of the “external”, out-loud speech. theguardian/science/blog/2014/aug/21/science-little-voice-head-hearing-voices-inner-speech Yet, another author, Mark Scott, hypothesized that this is a mechanism that aims to suppress, in some degree, listening to our own external voice when we are speaking to someone else. sciencedaily/releases/2013/07/130716080028.htm However, introspectively, when I try to inhibit my internal voice I feel some difficulty to think. This suggests to me that the thought process itself might be dependent of our inner speech. However, one of the authors claims that some people do not have an inner voice. I find it intriguing. What is your internal experience about this phenomenon ? Can you think about something in a profound and lasting way without using your inner voice ? Efstratios Filippidis
