Why I Became a Minister.. By Rev. Jamie R. Dean (June 22, 2013) It has been said that because I didn’t follow Christ I could not be a minister. I am not a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or do I follow any other set in stone religion. I am a child and follower of God the creator. I wish to spread the good news about what a life with the creator can be and the good that can come of it. All religions have good and bad traits, but one thing almost all religions have in common is a quest for a closer relationship with God. I have considered myself an agnostic in the past due to the fact that I do love and follow God but do not know without a shadow of a doubt if any religious sect is right or wrong. I can tell you that most of my life I have put my faith in the hands of God and a lot of good as come from it. You don’t have to jump on the I have to worship one way or another bandwagon to have a close religious relationship with the creator. Building a connection with God is a very personal journey that can only be worked out when you and God come together in prayer and meditation. Some people find it very comforting to join a church, synagogue, temple, etc.. and worship in a set way with others. Others find the need to build a relationship with God in their own way, but the goal is always the same. So why did I choose to become a minister, or as the proper term lay minister and seek to get ordained?? Well, in my life I have seen the power of God and the things he can do to help, protect and comfort you. In many bad times I have called upon him to help and he always sent help my way when it was important. Through times of homelessness, depression, abuse, and even a suicide attempt, God has helped me to work through and survive. He has revealed to me that no matter how bad the situation is with his help no permanent harm will come to me. Everyday in my walk with God has not been all rainbows and lollipops, but no matter how bad it does get God is there by my side to see me through. So back to the question.... I want to help others find a closer friendship with the creator. I want to help others to achieve the peace that a walk with God can bring. Being ordained just allows me to set myself apart as someone that would like to help you in your walk with God. I would never use the title of minister to profit or to bring shame to God. It just seems to me that my life story could help others that are going through bad times and find the peace that I have been able to achieve with my love for God. I hope I have answered some of the question a few of you might have had. May God’s love always shine upon you. Rev. Jamie R. Dean
