Why I parted company with organized religion.Over the years, organized religion gradually lost all relevance for me. Long before I realized where it would take me, I questioned things: Dont just tell me --- tell me how and why. I just can no longer accept anything on faith alone. My favorite subject in school was History. This interest led me to many discoveries. For instance the Mayans crossed the Bering Strait at least 20,000 years ago. The early inhabitants of Crete settled as early as 128,000 BC, during the Middle Paleolithic ago. The age of the earth is 4.54 billion years. Dinosaurs were here 230 million years ago. Z But, more recent the ancestors of Wampanoag people have lived for at least 10,000 years at Aquinnah (Gay Head) and throughout the island of Noepe (Marthas Vineyard). Z These accounts were all before the Creation Story as told in the Bible. A descendent was Iyanough Sachem of the Wamapanoag people was born in Barnstable, MA. He met the pilgrims when they arrived on the Mayflower. His son John Hyanno; his daughter Mary (Little Dove) Hayno married Augustine Bearse. His son, James Bearse married Experience Howland. She is my H6C8R. So, indirectly I connect with Wampanoag that lived there. I also connect 57 of the Mayflower PIlgrims. But there are more well-known people in my genealogy file that also connect to John Hyanno. Sarah Palin & President John Walker Bush. were his 11GGrandchildren.Z But getting back to organized religion. It is too heavily infused with illogic, inconsistency and contradictions.I do not believe God would take sides any more than a good parents would prefer one child over another. Yet there is no shortage of practitioners proclaiming their own denomination, demographic group, nation or class inherently favored in Gods eyes. I just do not believe God would favor Jews over Gentiles, Christians over Muslims, Buddhists, etc., men over women, Republicans over Democrats, the United States over Russia, China or even Israel over Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia or Dubai. Not would God favor straights over gays, whites over blacks, or even believers over non-believers.
