Why Nigerian Youth Is Irrelevant In World Development - TopicsExpress

Why Nigerian Youth Is Irrelevant In World Development Today. Believe it or not, the truth here is this, Nigeria is in a massive problem. I say this knowing so well that, interacting with Nigerian youths online, would make you know why I feel we all have got a massive problem in our hands to deal with. The truth is that, Nigerian youths hardly and rarely think things through and through. At times they act as if theyre brian dead. Most Nigerian youth believes almost everything he is told without personally verifying it. Whatever an average Nigerian youth hears from his pastor, Imam, or teacher he believes it without even thinking of verifying it if really it conforms with reason, morality and practical logic. If you utter something that sounds strange or alien or new to the ears of an average Nigerian youth, and ask him/her to do some research on it, often-times what you get as response could break your heart. If it is on religious issues, rather than think things through and task his/her mental faculty to reason what he/she just heard, objectively, extensively, logically and critically. He/she wont. Rather they will either call you names like, fool, anti-christ, misleader, devil-worker, illuminati, end-time agent, philosopher and false-prophet etc. And once they are through with the insults, theyll quickly start quoting scriptures and telling you this and this is what the holybook said or predicted. In circumstances, where they fail to do the above, they will plainly tell you that somethings are just beyond the knowledge and comprehension of man. That we should leave it to God, that God knows everything, we dont know. That it is wrong to challenge God or question such things . It is one of my strongest and painful opinions that, this very attitude is one of the major reasons, if not the greatest reason why Nigerian science and technology is greatly lacking behind in everything. With this sort of lackadaisical behaviour that discourages critical thinking, capacity to question things and in turn encourages the acceptance of things without verification; I can boldly tell you that even with all the monetary fundings in the world, our youths will yield little or no substantial results in scientific discovery and technological innovations. I say this because, such mind has been badly caged to do nothing or trigger better thought-pattern. The truth is that an uncritical mind can not, I repeat can not produce anything extraordinary of great appreciation or relevance The only possible explanation for this backward behaviours would be what anyone would get from years of dogmatic training and religious drilling in churches and mosques where things are taught to be true without need for questioning, testing and verification. This is one of the reason why I feel Nigeria is in a serious problem (cos nothing reasonable can grow or happen with this sort of attitude). Since it kills creativity in science and creative thought in technological breakthrough. The truth here is that, if you look closely and critically, you see that religion is at the center of it all. This is why I feel religion has go or be strictly restricted in public places and institution like schools and workshops if Nigerian youths and Nigeria must become relevant in global science, technology and innovations. As long as the current religious practice stays and continues, forget it, our science and technology would be nothing other than a dead and decaying fish that yield nothing of worth.
