Why Osun APC, PDP supporters clashed over voters’ card By Gbenga Faturoti - Correspondent, Osogbo Facts have emerged on the cause of the free-for-all that ensued between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in ward 7, Eweta Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State. Checks carried out by Daily Independent revealed that the fight broke out over the insistence of INEC officials on refusing PDP permanent voters’ cards (PVC) in proxy for unknown people. It was gathered that the PDP had attempted to collect permanent voters’ cards in bulk; a development rejected by INEC officials in particular the APC members who were monitoring the event. It would be recalled that last year, some members of the PDP were arrested in the said Ewata ward 07 when they were mopping up temporary voters card for cash, an action that led to similar clash between members of both parties, leading to the detention and prosecution of those arrested with the purchased cards. When the verification and collection of PVC started, eligible voters in the ward were already on the look out for likely cases of impersonation as a result of the experience of illegal mopping up reported last year. When some members of the PDP appeared at the registration unit with more than a temporary card and insisted on collecting for their supposed far-away family members, the APC members at the scene had to reject their (PDP) move, insisting that nobody would be allowed to collect on behalf of others. The stance of the APC did not go down well with the PDP members, who went back to mobilise their party members and went on rampage, disrupting the peace of the community. As a result of the fracas, police swung into action and arrested seven people, four members of the APC and three from the PDP and transferred them to state CID, Osogbo, where the seven are currently being detained. The state Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Maishanu, confirmed the arrest of party members through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Folasade Odoro
