Why Scotland needs a YES vote!! The union between Scotland and England was not a just and fairly brought about affair... It was in fact brought about through lies, bribery and blackmail... The people of Scotland did not have a choice whether they wanted to enter the union or not.. The cold hard truth of the matter is this... Scotland was an independent country until 1707 when the English parliament, using a mixture of quite open blackmail and less open bribery, persuaded a powerful group of Scottish aristocrats to vote for the union of the English and Scottish parliaments. In those days the vast majority of the population had no say in such decisions. They did not have the right to vote so therefore despite large number not in favour of such a union, there was not much that they could do given that their livelihoods were dependent on food and pay from the rich and wealthy aristocrats who owned the land... (Sound familiar?) So that was the marriage of the Union... Now lets move onto to the late 70s and early 80s.. Before Thatcher came to power in 1979, Scotland had a large public workforce which included car manufacturing, coal mining, shipbuilding, and engineering and steelworks, which were all backed by the government funding which was propped up by the tax payer.. This government subsidised backing meant our industry was able to compete on the global market by offering competitive contracts which in turn brought economic stability and jobs for the working class... Thatcher believed these government backed subsidies from the taxpayer were a drain on government funds and therefore saw fit to break up the industries for privatisation and sell them for peanuts just to get them off the governments hands... Privatisation then removed the competitive edge along with the taxpayers protection and thus in turn signalled the end of Scotland as an industrial force... Meanwhile in Europe, they chose to continue keeping their industry in the public hands and therefore able to compete in global markets... Germany for example are now the economic powerhouse of Europe leading the way in industry and jobs... Moving on Scotland hit an oil boom which curbed the financial crisis brought about by Thatcher... Instead of investing the oil revenue in an oil fund or spreading the wealth throughout the UK to create a fairer and just society, the money was mainly used up lowering taxes and spent in and around London creating more opportunity down South... 30 years later we find ourselves having been involved in illegal wars, seen countless billions in Scotlands oil revenue squandered, had an economic meltdown, watched the disastrous government mismanagement of everything leading to 1.3trillion in debt which is rising due to the UK not being able to afford to even match the interest payments on this debt, along with paedophile ring cover ups, lies, media bias and government expenses scandals, 1 million foodbanks, and the rich getting richer while the poor get poorer... Its a complete and utter shambles... Do you really want more of the same??? The only way you can change this is a YES VOTE....
