Why are all the politicians acting like nothing is wrong? A young man got kidnapped and even UPDF boasted of having him -- Mugumya is no more. So, do you mean you have killed him? Not many get out alive from Makindye barracks. You should even ask your own Moses Ali. Where is Sam Mugumya you Rugunda Sir? Do you not remember that Gen. Sejusa has already warned you. You are well liked by Ugandans so why do you not demand for us to get our brother back? Mozambique, go back to your own country and Frelimo. Your country helped to train some people who are committing atrocities and now you give us advice on Diplomacy. ------------------------------ The Former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano has paid tribute to the Diplomatic Corps of Uganda for working together with a noble objective of raising funds to finance special projects aimed at improving the lives of Ugandans. The Former President said the core function of diplomacy was to promote friendly relations between the sending state and the receiving state. Chissano made the remarks at the first Annual dinner and Ball of the Diplomatic Corps of Uganda at Kampala Serena hotel on Saturday. He was the key note speaker on the topic: Philanthropy and Development Diplomacy: A new tool for the promotion of friendly relations between States. “In my view this philanthropic initiative by the Diplomatic Corps of Uganda should be replicated in Africa and all developing countries,” said the Former President. He said this new and dynamic feature of philanthropy and development diplomacy aimed at promoting development in receiving states is now an essential component of foreign policy, adding that it hinges on peace and stability whose absence impacts negatively on any development initiatives in any state. Chissano said this new approach to bilateral relations, unlike the traditional diplomacy will elevate the responsibility between states to new heights because people will better understand the role of development diplomacy. The Former President and receiver of the inaugural Mo Ibrahim prize for Achievement in African Leadership in 2007 said Uganda was one of the fast growing economies in Africa which he attributed to macro-economic stability, peace and stability, democracy and good governance. He added that Uganda was gifted by nature and had all the natural resources including oil, and tourist attractions all of which if well harnessed and exploited could improve the economy and create jobs for many Ugandans. The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who represented President Yoweri Museveni, said Uganda Government recognizes that addressing our common development challenges and finding lasting peace on our continent requires the participation of a broad coalition of stakeholders including Development Partners. “Your choice of President Chissano as a key note speaker on this topic tonight is testimony of his remarkable work, dedication and contribution towards sustainable peace and economic development not only in his country Mozambique but also Uganda and indeed the whole of Africa,” Rugunda said. The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Uganda, Patrick Edwards said the Diplomatic Corps are seeking to institutionalize a universally accepted principle that the essence of diplomacy is the collective development of man for the preservation and advancement of mankind. Patrick Edwards who is also the High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago said 50% of the proceeds from this dinner and ball will go towards supporting the work of Uganda Police in fighting gender based violence and related social ills in society in addition to promoting gender related activities. chimpreports/chissano-tips-uganda-on-modern-diplomacy/
