So today I met this man named Bob. He is a farmer who lives not too far from our house. I had stopped in to see if Bob would mind if I walked his property to look for antlers. He happily said yes. Later I returned home and I began to work on a car and needed some help. I called him and asked if he had a certain tool. He said yes and that I was welcome to come down to his shop and get the work done. I was happy to go down and get to know him a bit better. When I arrived I found him out feeding his cows. All 120 head of them. He pulled his tractor over to the shop, shut it off and began to help me. After about 45 minutes of messing around with my problem we finally accomplished what I came for. While he was working on my stuff, I began to apologize for taking so much of his time. He quickly replied in his slow, cattle farmer draw, Dont worry about it! Paul, I believe this country has lost its ideal on what it means to be neighborly. I want to be a good neighbor to those I come in contact with and only hope it comes back to me. I think Bob is right. We have lost the sense of what it is to be neighborly. Weve lost the understanding of treating others how we would like to be treated. For most Americans, we have sadly become a nation of me, mine, I and not yours. After he worked with me, I told him that I would gladly help him finish feeding his cattle. I did and then we talked for about a 1/2 hour more. Bob is a great guy. Hes not a Christian... believe me. But, he treated me better than some Christians have. I want to be like Bob but I also want to try to lead Bob to Christ. Tonight, Im thankful for Bob and his new friendship. But, Im praying that God would lead me to more opportunities where I could lead Bob to Christ. I think that could be the best neighborly act.
