Why are our men such an intimidated lot that they need to assert their supremacy over women anyhow? Every 20 minutes a rape takes place in India. I agree this is just a fragmented part of what goes on here but why have such incidents sky rocketed in recent past. If it is because more women are coming out to report such atrocities like incest, molestation and rape, it is true too that many more just choose silence over being shamed and harrassed by our hypocritical society. We know that women in ancient India enjoyed many freedoms but with the passage of time these liberties were lost behind shackles of home and hearth. The economic and social self reliance we vouch for today is a result of decades of reform. Is this the reason why men think that we owe them this respect that is our natural right and that which, ironically, we had to fight for?
