Why are running shoes so UGLY and then you have to buy the ugly - TopicsExpress

Why are running shoes so UGLY and then you have to buy the ugly shoe at what I deemed to be ridiculous in cost. I went shoe shopping while Abby was at camp so I had plenty of time to browse the selection and the place was pretty deserted so I decided to do a comfort test and compare personal foot comfort to price. Well now I know not all shoes are created equal. Cheap running shoes ($50-$75) suck they are hard and stiff. middle of the road running shoes ($75-$100) were better then the cheap ones. more bounce and some flexibility (still ugly though). upper mid range shoes ($100-$150) were light, flexible and comfy. A lot of bounce to boot. Then I had to go to the mother of all running shoes (well at least the most expensive they had) in the $150-$200 range And (sigh) these were like a spa treatment for your feet. The shoe just molded to your foot and disappeared so your foot and shoe were now one (only with your eyes closed though. If you looked down your foot was dressed in very loud colored sneakers). Striding through the store was like walking on air. So I stood there trying to decide which ugly shoe to buy and... someone taps me on the shoulder and hands me a 10% coupon they were not going to use and a sales associate came over and put a 10% markdown on one of the mother of all shoes, so I took it as a sign from above and bought them. I paid about the same amount as I would have paid in the mid range area so... I now have happy feet in comfy ugly shoes!
