Why are so many children coming here, on their own, from Central - TopicsExpress

Why are so many children coming here, on their own, from Central America? Well, in the 19th and 20th century, we essentially turned Central American countries into corporate fiefdoms for companies such as The United Fruit Company. We installed governments to protect the interests of those corporations. The people, who were dirt poor and brutalized by those corporations and the governments that protected them, did not like it. They overthrew the governments- except in Honduras- and we went in to support forces allied with the interests of US businesses, who slaughtered large numbers of people and essentially destroyed what was left of civil society. At the same time, large numbers of people from those countries emigrated or fled to the United States. Most suffered economic hardship. Some of them joined gangs, such as MS-13. Eventually, some of those same gang members were deported by the US government back to their home countries, or returned voluntarily, at which time some set up organized crime operations. The governments in those countries, emerging from many years of economic distress and decades of civil war, were largely unable to stop the violence, or were otherwise incompetent or corrupt. Over many years, they became among the most violence-prone societies on the planet. And so… large numbers of children fleeing to the United States.
