Why can’t India Offer non-technical Degree programs equivalent - TopicsExpress

Why can’t India Offer non-technical Degree programs equivalent the degree programs offered in other parts of the world? The educational patterns followed most of the countries in the world is: 11+2+3. This was the scenario in India too till the FA (two year pre-degree program) was abolished in India. The current system followed in India is 15 years of academic pursuit to achieve a B A, B Sc, B.Com / B B A or any other similar degree like B Music. As the degree program fall short by one year by international standards, the degree programs offered in India do not fetch the required recognition. Hence, it is better to follow the following pattern 10+2+4, instead of 10+2+3. The Engineering and Medical degrees offered in India gets the required recognition as it comply with the 16 years of academic pursuit, more particularly a 4+ years degree program. Let us give opportunity for the youth of India, who pursue B A, B Sc and B Com programs, so that they could continue Masters degree program like M B A in overseas universities and also to make fortunes in international job market. As most of the medical graduate leave for international jobs, and fails to cater to the social / public need of India, the UPA government was contemplating a 2 / 3 years Health Care degree to fill the requirement of the Primary Health Centers of India. Hence, we could have set sets of stream: A - Degree (B A, B Sc, B Com. B E and M B B S) program with 10+2+3 stream to cater to need of the India. B - Honors Degree (B A, S Bc, B Com., B E, and M B B S) program with 10+2+4 stream to cater to the needs of India and abroad. In the absence of an Washington Accord for degrees other than engineering, I think, the U G C should facilitate such move by individual Universities.
