Why do people get married in a church by a Christian minister? For centuries, this tradition held fast in America for several reasons. By no means do I propose to exhaust the reasons for church weddings, but I do believe what I am about to share was largely true. First, marriage was long recognized (even by the government through their sanction of minsters performing the service) as a divine institution. it is more than a civil union or contract. People understood marriage to be an institution created by God. Secondly, the Church is the Body of Christ, and the marriage of a man and a woman, sanctioned by the Church, puts the divine stamp on the union and blesses the union in hopes that it will be a marriage that will honor God and reflect Christ in this world. See, people used to study their Bibles and they understand that marriage was to be a reflection of Christs love to the world. They sought to start out the right way, with Gods blessing, with a wedding officiated by a Christian minister. At least, thats how I see it.
