Why do we do Yogasana, Pranayama & Dhyana? Yoga says - Your body is your visible mind & your mind is your invisible body. They are both the same. Hatha yoga went a step ahead & said - Human life is a coin with 3 sides - Body, Breath & Mind. Some proofs are - With any physical pain how is your breathing? – Its heavy, labored & shallow! & mind ? – Uneasy, haphazard & restless! With some bad /sad news how is your body? – Its heavy, lethargic & a dragger! & breathe? – Heavy, labored & shallow! & Vice versa With some emotion like fear what happens to your body? – Abdominal cramps, sweating, high heart rate / BP! & breathe? – Heavy, labored & shallow! You change any one & the remaining two have to follow. That’s the basis of all Hatha Yoga. DO YOGASANA - USE BODY TO CHANGE THE BREATH & MIND. DO PRANAYAMA - USE BREATH TO CHANGE THE BODY & MIND. DO DHYANA - USE MIND TO CHANGE THE BREATH & BODY. In today’s world, mind has become slippery & difficult to reach directly - like regulating or controlling / changing it. Breath is a very difficult & esoteric science & takes Gurus Grace as well as a long Sadhana to achieve proficiency. So why not use Yogasana as a tool to reach & regulate the breath & mind till we are ready to reach the latter stages like Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana & Samadhi. Remember, Yoga postures are called as Yogasana – so they have Yoga as their inherent quality! Thus in ones’ Sadhana of Yogasana he can still practice Pranayama & the remaining stages!
