Why do we still have the term feminsm in this day and age? Since - TopicsExpress

Why do we still have the term feminsm in this day and age? Since women have equal rights laws (albeit the playing field is still not yet as level as it can be) they no longer need to fight, so surely a secular group that only serves to dissociate women from men (whilst claiming to campaign for equal treatment) cannot be beneficial to the cause. Since it is safe to assume that all women wish to be treated with equal levels of respect (provided respect is earned) to men then why is an extra title still required? All that suggests is that the assumption is that other women do not ordinarily wish for equal rights, or that it must still be fought for. If we simply apply the logic that all humans wish to be treated equally, we can simply use human as a term and feminist can be reserved for those women (regardless of proportion) who still see gender equality as a battlefield (in much the same way that misogynist remains the term for men unwilling to accept equality). Scrap the term and lets all share one name to actually be equal. [Content re-written, at length, for the benefit of Maria, Bryony, Cheryl & Clare. Hopefully this explains ny stance more precisely...]
