Why is Lama Zopa and the FPMT desecrating holy stupas? The Foundation for the Protection of the Mahayana Tradition (known commonly as the FPMT) was founded by the Lama Yeshe who was a great practitioner of Dorje Shugden. The FPMT under Lama Yeshes heart student, Lama Zopa eventually denounced Dorje Shugden probably under pressure from the Dalai Lama and CTA. It is clear from Lama Zopas earlier statements detaching FPMT from Dorje Shugden, that it was done rather reluctantly. In May 1997, Lama Zopa in giving a statement about the FPMTs decision to abandon the Shugden practice had this to say, It does not mean they [Shugden] are wrong. Nor does one have to look at the protector as evil. For us ordinary people it is difficult to judge, because we cannot see these lamas ’ minds. Another side of the teaching is that it is mentioned that the protector is an Arya Bodhisattva, a manifestation of Manjushri. So, then, there is also the risk of our creating very heavy karma in that context. However by the year 2014, the same Lama Zopa (who incidentally owed his recognition to Dorje Shugden) was singing a very different tune. And it quickly became the FPMTs policy that: 1.Those in service or teaching in FPMT centers, projects and services do not engage in the practice of Shugden; 2. Students regularly attending FPMT centers should not practice Shugden; 3. FPMT teachers and key staff should not attend teachings by teachers who are known Shugden practitioners. For all intents and purposes, Lama Zopa and the FPMT had taken the Dalai Lama and CTAs line that Dorje Shugden is not Manjushri but a dark spirit hell-bent on harming the Dalai Lama, intent on sabotaging the Tibetan peoples fight to regain their home, and a spirit with a malicious aim of degenerating the Buddhadharma. It comes as a complete surprise and an explosive find by Ton Moonen, that amongst the most sacred of items to be inserted into a holy stupa erected by the FPMT, are the following items: Liberation In The Palm Of Your Hand written by Pabongkha Rinpoche, and a collection of blessed mani pills by Pabongkha Dechen Nyingpo, Kyabje Trijang Dorjechang and Zong Rinpoche, all of whom were the highest of Shugden lamas and stalwarts of the pure lineage! It doesnt make sense for the FPMT to regard a stupa as the highest and holiest representation of the Buddhas mind and then insert into it items which are representative of and consecrated by lamas who practiced this demon devotedly and to the very end of their lives and even thereafter. The Dalai Lama, CTA, Lama Zopa and FPMT painted Dorje Shugden as a dark force so vile, corrupt and malicious that it had to be completely eradicated from Tibetan Buddhism and all Dharma practicing societies. But this action by the FPMT states undoubtedly that they secretly believe the opposite to be true. If Lama Zopa and FPMT truly believed that Dorje Shugden is as the Dalai Lama and CTA claimed, the same reasons upon which the FPMT broke samaya with their founding father Lama Yeshe and abandoned their Protector, then how can they allow the stupa which is being filled with the most sacred items such as sets of the Kangyur and Je Tsongkhapas Lamrim be desecrated by unholy items representing elements destructive to the Buddhadharma? That just doesnt make sense. This is definite proof that: 1. A large percentage of lamas, geshes, monks, monasteries and lay practitioners were forced or coerced into denouncing Dorje Shugden. And that at the heart of it, like Lama Zopa, they do not believe that Dorje Shugden is as claimed by the Dalai Lama and CTA; 2. That the Shugden ban is premised on a lie and imposed upon the people by a combination of force and deception; 3. That the Dalai Lama and his leaders such as Sikyong Lobsang Sangay, Penpa Tsering and even the ex-Prime Minister Samdhong Rinpoche have knowingly distorted the truth and Gelugpa history in order to achieve a hidden agenda.
