Why is it that in many cases people have to reach total crisis - TopicsExpress



          

Why is it that in many cases people have to reach total crisis point or the point of self-destruction before they are offered help and support? Telling someone who is expressing suicidal thoughts or clearly reaching out for help that they are not ill enough is simply not acceptable. If people are verbally expressing that they want to, or are going to inflict serious harm upon themselves .. and are allowed to walk free with no measure of support to follow ... isnt that like playing russian roulette with their life? If a greater level of support was offered during the early stages of mental illness then there would be a greater level of hope and a diminishing sense of hopelessness. Early intervention will undoubtedly save lives ... and perhaps people would be more inclined to ask for help without the fear of being turned away. Not all threats are hollow ...
