Why is she Still on Public Payroll 4 Months after Scandal-Scarred Panel Closed up Shop? New York State Comptroller Candidate Bob Antonacci today called on Albany incumbent Tom DiNapoli to refuse to endorse the state-issued checks Moreland Commission Executive Director Regina Calcaterra is still receiving more than four months after the scandal-scarred panel closed up shop. Every two weeks, the Executive Director of the now-defunct Moreland Commission receives a check for nearly seven thousand dollars courtesy of state taxpayers for work she is no longer doing. The Governor should either show her the door or Mr. DiNapoli should refuse payment on those checks. Its an insult to hardworking taxpayers that she continues to be paid, Antonacci said. Calcaterra had a starring role in a lengthy New York Times investigative story last week that outlined repeated acts of interference by the Governor and top staffers in the work of the supposedly independent corruption-fighting commission. According to multiple reports, Calcaterra was the Governors eyes and ears on the panel and frequently communicated in real-time what the district attorneys who served on the panel were saying and doing. She may now even be in the crosshairs of the U.S. Attorneys office, who is believed to be investigating the Cuomo administrations handling of this matter. Antonacci is the two-time elected Comptroller for Onondaga County, which has the highest bond rating in the state. Last week, he called on DiNapoli to audit the Moreland Commission so the public could have a full and fair accounting of how hundreds of thousands or more in taxpayer dollars were being spent. DiNapoli refused. If were ever going to sweep clean the corruption that permeates Albany, we need someone to stand up and protect the taxpayers of New York. Its clear that Albany incumbent Tom DiNapoli isnt up for the task, Antonacci concluded.
