Why should we evangelize? Because hell is real. (NIV)Luke 16:19-28 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. [23] In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. [24] So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ [25] “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. [26] And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ [27] “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, [28] for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ All of us were made to last forever. One day, your heart will stop, and thats going to be the end of your physical body but not the end of you. There is life after death. If you will die today, where do you think youll be? If hell is not real, then its good. But what if hell is real? 4 facts about hell 1. IT IS REAL. (NIV)Luke 16:22-23 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The concept of hell is not made up by the church to make you stay. It is created by God for the devil and all who worship him. It is Gods intention for us to live in heaven after we die. He wants us to experience joy after suffering a lot on earth. 2. IT IS A PLACE OF TORMENT. Many welcome the idea of being in hell because they thought it is fun. A. It is a place of physical torment [24] So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire. Have you experience being in pain? You do everything to be relieved. But in hell, you want to rest from the pain but you cant. It is intense and it is ongoing. B. It is a place of relational suffering. Hell is a place of complete darkness and loneliness. Love doesnt exist. Have you experienced having enemies? Or being left alone with no friends at all? Imagine it forever. C. It is a place of emotional torment. (NIV)Matthew 13:49-50 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous [50] and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Gnashing of teeth is a sign of emotional torment. Here on earth, you experience emotional suffering when you remember the past, how they hurt you, or how you hurt yourself. In hell, there is no amnesia. You remember everything. The worst thing that you will remember is how many times God gave you a chance to repent but you didnt. And now, youre doomed forever. d. It is a place of spiritual torment. (NIV)2 Thessalonians 1:9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might. Have you experienced being so in the presence of God and then you sinned. And your lost? But when you called on Him, Hes there again. So you sin again. This will not go on forever. There will come a time that he could not rescue you anymore. And that is when you are in hell. We complain so much about our life here on earth when in fact we are blessed because He still sustains us with His grace. God still let the sun shine both on good and wicked people. Bu there will come a time when God will shut out His presence, no more grace, no more compassion and it will be forever. 3. HELL IS ETERNAL. (NIV)Luke 16:26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ It has been set even before you were born and you cant change it. It is meant to live forever. 4. HELL IS AVOIDABLE. (NIV)Luke 16:27-28 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, [28] for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ It is possible to not go to hell. Hell is a choice. CONCLUSION: Why should we evangelize? Because hell is real, and were all going there. But God made a way. (NIV)John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. He came to save you. But not just you. He came to save the world too. And if you feel you are in gratitude to Him for saving you, you will join His cause. Share the free gift of salvation to others.
