Why use a compact bench-top juicer when you can use this elaborate mechanism? The wife feeds in the sugarcane and the ginger while the husband works the handle. That leaves no extra hands to shoo the flies. When we stopped for some juice near the end of a long day, I couldnt help but notice that as the woman fed wads of sugarcane into the grinder, a thousand opportunistic flies swarmed on the grinder and the sugarcane. I realised then that what we were about to drink would most likely contain 20% fly juice. But when youve been walking in India for five days, this is not really the kind of thing you worry about anymore. The juice was delicious. That said, I think Ill stick to my electric juicer.
