Why we ought to be able to forgive others Matthew 18:27 “Then - TopicsExpress

Why we ought to be able to forgive others Matthew 18:27 “Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.” Jesus told a parable about a king that wanted to settle an account with his workers. One of his servants owed him ten-thousand talents; probably several million dollars. (A talent of gold measured between 58 and 80 pounds.) When he could not pay the debt, he and his family were ordered to be sold as slaves. When he pleaded for mercy, he and his family received forgiveness and were freed of this enormous debt! This same servant, however, found someone that owed him money, about one-hundred denarii, worth about sixteen cents. He demanded the debt be paid. When his servant could not pay he commanded him to be thrown into prison and until the account was settled. He showed no mercy! He was forgiven a debt of several million dollars; but could not forgive a debt of a few pennies! We need to get an understanding and a vision of what we as human beings have been forgiven of by the grace and mercy of God. We have been exonerated of thousands of offences and sins! We have been salvaged from eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire! Now it is our responsibility to forgive those who comparatively have committed little misdemeanors against us. If the holy God of all could go to the cross to die for my justification, I ought to be able to forgive others. Pastor Wilson (9-10-2013)
