Why would anyone abandon an animal in a cage? Please read the following and help if you can. It has come to our attention that there were 20 cats abandoned in cages in the Fernley area this morning. We would appreciate any help we can get in finding these furry friends new homes or who can foster them until we can find homes for each of them. Without any shelter for cats, Fernley and the northern half of Lyon County continues to suffer from abandoned pets. A number of dogs and cats were already rescued this month. Maybe someone will listen and help us with our continuing problem? Unfortunately, the nearest no-kill shelters for both dogs and cats are in Fallon (Churchill County), Yerington (south Lyon County) and Reno-Sparks (Washoe County). We are all overwhelmed. Our volunteer organizations, including Animal Rescue Group of Northern Nevada are working as hard as they can to foster and find homes for pets. However, between the economy and shifting population, the numbers seem to be growing within our region.
