Why you should hike on trails… or not at all: Today I learnt - TopicsExpress

Why you should hike on trails… or not at all: Today I learnt that I hate hiking and rock climbing with a passion. Matt, Jamie and I climbed Old Man (Roche Bonhomme) and we thought itd be a brilliant idea to not use a trail and head straight up… After hours of severe sweating, dense scrub and dehydration, due to us drinking nearly all of our water before we even got half way up, and after several disputes, we finally made it to the top! After parading around naked on Old Mans head… and doing other profanities… we decide to head down… but I choose to lead us down a dried out, very steep and dangerous creek… turns out I did that thing where you cant stop running and just gain more speed and start rolling down and nearly dying, (dont worry, its on film). Severe dehydration and hallucinations set in… Id think id see the road and trails but really I have 387 more logs to jump over and kilometres of thick scrub. I run ahead and get to the bottom where a bear was chillen, poking his head out of rocks, at this point I didnt care and walked straight past, (The thought of drinking his blood came to mind). We hit the road, collapse and drink copious amounts of water from some tap that was placed there just to save our lives… Great feeling getting to the top and not quitting, but cant say the slices and bruises and grazes were worth it. Enjoy the photos and video (which ill upload separate)…
