Wider support for the doctrine of no man knows By: Chris McCann As we look into the Bible for wider support for the doctrine of no man knows that many professed Christians hold onto, we find that there is no historical support backing up this doctrine. And we also find that the Scriptural principles as stated in numerous passages likewise do not lend support for this doctrine. Furthermore, a search of the Bible reveals Gods wrathful displeasure with ignorance concerning a judgment that has come upon a people. What does this mean? It means that the doctrine which is derived from the verses declaring of that day and hour knoweth no man do not have any additional support a part from those statements themselves. Alright many will say, but the Bible does say it and I believe it. And that settles it for me. Yes the Bible does plainly say that of that day and hour knoweth no man. But certainly you must be aware that the Bible makes many plain, direct statements, which if followed would lead a person astray into false teachings and gospels. Lets look at some of this plain statements of the Scripture: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. All kinds of professed Christians point to John 3:16 as a proof text that Jesus died for the sins of all in the world. And yet that would make Christs atoning work largely ineffective. As the vast majority of people in the world perish. The truth is that Christ died only for His elect. Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 is often referred to by those that teach a free will gospel. This (seemingly) plain statement of Scripture is used by those that teach Arminianism (free will) in salvation. Of course the Bible does not teach man is saved by his own free will (John 1:12,13); but rather but the will of God in choosing those whom He intended to save from before the foundation of the world. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Many point to the plain statement found in Mark 16:16 to justify their teaching that water baptism is needed for salvation. Of course the Bible does not teach this at all. The baptism that saves is that baptism performed by the Holy Spirit of God in washing away the sins of Gods elect. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 is another obvious, plain Scriptural statement. Many point to the words found here of not willing that any should perish; and, all should come to repentance as all the proof they need to declare that Christ died for all and all will become saved. But again, the Bible no where teaches that kind of thing. Instead God teaches a limited atonement for only His chosen people. We could continue on looking at more and more verses that state, what on the surface, appears to be an obvious truth; but time and again we would discover that the plain seemingly straightforward declaration of the Scripture---lead the casual reader astray and into some very serious doctrinal error.
