Wigmen proud of young Albert’s achievements Source: The National, Monday June 30th, 2014 HELA Wigmen chairman Andy Hetra, thanked the PNGRFL for identifying the potential of Stanton Albert and giving him the opportunity to be exposed with SP Hunters and then the opportunity to represent PNG at the commonwealth games. Stanton Albert, the younger sibling of Panthers recruit Wellinton Albert was named player of the tournament which PNG won gold recently at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Stanton was plucked from Mendi High School last year and was drafted into Wigmen junior development program. Stanton made his way into the first 17 and was a regular towards the end of last season until he was plugged by Hunters early this year. “Stanton is a shinning example and a role model for the aspiring league players in Hela and SHP. It is rewarding for Wigmen; a new team in the Digicel Cup to see one of its products shine at the world stage,” Hetra said. “To win gold is good news and for Stanton to come out as the player of the tournament is a great achievement and even sweeter for the club as well as Stanton.” “Nothing is more rewarding than seeing your product going further and delivering results when it matters. “There are others out there that need to be identified and given the same opportunity. I urge PNGRFL to stage more internal fixtures to expose our young players and this is the only way we will be competitive. “Stanton has a good head on his shoulders. He has always been a quick learner, dedicated and committed,” Hetra added. “He has the potential and has a great future ahead of him. With good training and coaching at a younger age, he is destined to be a complete footballer.
