Wild Pink Yonder – Rycroft If you haven’t heard of Wild Pink Yonder, you are in for a treat. Wild Pink Yonder is a group of horseback riders that are riding for a cure for Breast Cancer. They are riding through the Peace Country and visiting several communities on their journey back to Edmonton. The group of approximately 50 riders will be arriving in Rycroft on Thursday, August 15 and staying for 2 days and 2 nights before heading off to their next destination. A few very dedicated volunteers have been working hard on planning activities for the riders and also for all community members. Currently, there is a silent auction, items to bid on are available to view at ATB Financial in Rycroft. The auction will be closing at 9:00 PM Friday, August 16. There is a lot of PINK merchandise available for sale at local businesses, proceeds going to cancer research. If you would like to donate at any time stop in at ATB Financial in Rycroft, there is an account set up for donations. There will also be a bottle drive at an undetermined date. If you wish to donate your bottles right away, we will have a stock trailer available at Rycroft Ranch Supplies & Western Wear soon to store the bottles until the drive. On Thursday, August 15, riders will arrive in the morning and will enjoy a lunch supplied by Rycroft Ranch Supplies & Western Wear and Western Spirits. After getting settled, fed and geared up, the Wild Pink Yonder riders will go on a trail to Spirit River. If you are hoping to join in this or any of the Wild Pink Yonder Trail Ride, please be sure that you have met the requirements to take part in this event. Information is available online or at Rycroft Ranch Supplies & Western Wear, ATB Rycroft and Spirit River. The group will be riding down main street Spirit River where ATB Financial will be holding their “Dropping balls for Boobies” fundraiser. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you have an opportunity to purchase ping pong balls (1 for $5 or 3 for $10) at either Rycroft or Spirit River ATB Financial Branches. The first ball to cross the finish line will receive 25% of funds raised for the contest. Riders will then ride back to Rycroft to prepare for the evening. There will be a riding or walking PINK PARADE. We would like to show our support to the riders and community, so come dressed in PINK and join the parade. There will be a welcome and special speech to start off the evening. Local trick rider, Keely Wamsteeker, will perform at 7:00. A family carnival held at the Ag Society grounds from 6:00 to 9:00, with bounce houses, carnival games and fun children’s activities. Wristbands may be purchased for the evening at $25 per child or individual tickets $2 each or 3 for $5. There will be a food stand with burgers, hot dogs, drinks, PINK cotton candy, PINK snow cones, etc. Also, there will be balloon animals for $5.00 each. There will be PINK treats and merchandise, including glow necklaces and bracelets. BONUS – Vendors from the Farmer’s Market will be at the Ag Society Building from 6:00 to 9:00 as well. BONUS – Take a hit at Cancer at the Car Smash. There will be an auction for first 5 hits, then 3 hits for $5.00. The PINK car that will be “smashed” is displayed at HUSKY. Then on Friday, August 16 the riders will enjoy a day long trail ride. Remember if you would like to join them on the trail ride to check out the Wild Pink Yonder website for the details. A BINGO will be held for at the Ag Society building from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Riders will return for supper at approximately 6:00 at the Ag Society building. There will be possible head shaves held – 2 local boys are trying to raise $500.00 to shave their heads, let’s raise enough to see this happen. Musical entertainment (local musicians, please contact Cindy at 780-518-9142 if you are interested in performing for the riders and community members). On Saturday, August 17, the Wild Pink Yonder riders leave for their next destination, Wanham.
