Wildlife drama in the city. Malabar Hill, in south Mumbai, still - TopicsExpress

Wildlife drama in the city. Malabar Hill, in south Mumbai, still has quite a bit of green cover, notwithstanding the dogged attempt of some people to destroy every last vestige of green we have and replace it with cement, paver-blocks and the like. Within the past few days, apart from the usual peafowl, kingfishers, barbets, paradise flycatchers, magpie robins and a host of butterflies, we were witness to two relatively unusual sights. The first was a dhaman (rat snake) being chased away by a crow on our compound wall and the second another arch predator, a centipede, being dragged by a solitary ant. The laws of the jungle are just as alive here in Mumbai as they are in the Congo, or Ranthambhore, or Tadoba!
