Wilkes-Barre Police Anti Crime Unit with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police Wyoming Vice/Narcotics Unit 5 total arrested 2 Handguns recovered 1 Bulletproof Vest recovered 1 Wanted by Pennsylvania State Parole 1 Wanted by Luzerne County Sheriff’s Dept 1 Rolling 60’s (Queens, Ny) Crip gang member 1 facing a deportation hearing by Immigration Services 1. Controlled Purchase conducted at Schiels Market 30 Hanover St Arrested: Nicholas SANDO W/M 59yrs old 1 East Green Street Apt 111, Nanticoke Angela ESPINOSA W/F 43yrs old 2 Echo Valley Drive, Shavertown CI placed a phone call to Nicholas SANDO aka “Sick Nick” to purchase a quantity of heroin. SANDO instructed the CI to meet him in the parking lot of Schiel’s parking lot 30 Hanover St. A white Toyota sedan entered the parking lot of Schiel’s and the CI entered the rear passenger seat of this vehicle. The driver of this vehicle was later identified as ESPINOSA, Angela. A short time later the CI exited the vehicle and gave awaiting Officers the prearranged signal the transaction was complete. Officers stopped the vehicle and both ESPINOSA and SANDO were taken into custody. At the time of arrest ESPINOSA had in her possession heroin which was consistent with the heroin purchased from the controlled purchase. The prerecorded U.S. currency used for the controlled purchase was found on SANDO’s person at the time of arrest. Records check indicated that SANDO was currently wanted by the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Dept for Simple Assault. Both were transported to LCCF for overnight arraignment. ****************************************** 2. Controlled purchase conducted in the area of Puritan Lane and Taft Street. Arrested: John Witherspoon B/M 29yrs old Queens, New York CI placed a phone call John Witherspoon aka “Nick” to purchase a quantity of crack cocaine. The CI and WITHERSOON negotiated an exchange for prerecorded US currency for an amount of crack cocaine. WITHERSPOON then instructed the CI to meet him in the area of Puritan Lane and Taft St. The CI arrived in the area and met with WITHERSPOON. The CI supplied Officers with a prearranged signal the transaction was complete and Officer attempted to take into WITHERSPOON into custody. WITHERSPOON fled on Officers and a foot pursuit was initiated. WITHERSPOON was captured by police at the rear of a S. Meade Street residence. The prerecorded U.S. currency used for the controlled purchase was found on WITHERSPOON’s person at the time of arrest. Records check indicated that WITHERSPOON was currently wanted by Pennsylvania State Parole for a previous narcotics arrest. A detainer was placed on WITHERSPOON by State Parole. WITHERSPOON stated to Officers that he is an active Crip gang member with the Rollin 60s set based out of Queens, NY. WITHERSPOON was transported to LCCF for overnight arraignment. *************************** 3. Controlled purchase conducted in the area of Covell St and Blackman St. Arrested: Amos COKER B/M 26yrs old 21 W. Hartford St, Ashley and 70 Prospect St, Wilkes-Barre Terrell HUMPHREY B/M 29yrs old 99 Waters St, Wilkes-Barre CI placed a phone call Amos COKER aka “Black” to purchase a quantity of crack cocaine. COKER instructed the CI to meet him in the area of Covell Street and Blackman Street. A short time later maroon Ford Explorer with heavy tint on the windows arrived in this location and the CI entered the rear passenger side of the Ford Explorer. Moments prior to the CI entering the vehicle Officer Sinavage and Officer Yelland observed the maroon Ford Explorer and the driver of another vehicle engaged in an illegal narcotics transaction in the area of 47 Poplar Street. The maroon Ford Explorer exited the area of 47 Poplar St and continued to the CI. The CI entered the rear passenger seat of the Ford Explorer and surveillance members followed the vehicle in and around the immediate area. The CI exited the vehicle in the area of Poplar St and immediately contacted police and stated that the controlled purchase was not completed. The CI stated that while driving in the area the driver COKER and passenger HUMPHREY’s both recognized a member of the surveillance team from a previous narcotics arrest and became extremely nervous. The vehicle was stopped by Officers and both COKER and HUMPHREY were taken into custody. On HUMPHREY’s possession at the time of arrest was a large quantity of crack cocaine located in his genital region. The maroon Ford Explorer was found to be rented by COKER. Officers found inside the vehicle a fully loaded Kel-Tec semi-automatic 9mm pistol. A records check indicated that COKER has been convicted of multiple felonies and is not allowed by law to own or be in possession of a firearm. Also on COKER’s criminal history he has been flagged as a deportable alien and Immigration Services was contacted. Immigration Services stated the COKER will face a deportation hearing based on the current charges. At the time of arrest HUMPHREY was currently out on Work Release from Luzerne County Correctional Facility looking for employment. HUMPHREY is also being supervised at the time by Pennsylvania State Parole for a previous narcotics conviction. A detainer was placed on HUMPHREY by Pennsylvania State Parole. Do to the circumstances and the information given Officers obtained a search warrant for COKER’s residence which is located at 21 W. Hartford St, Ashley. Officers recovered during the search warrant a bulletproof vest in a bedroom and a fully loaded .38 cal Taurus Revolver with a box of ammunition located in the basement. Both WITHERSPOON and COKER were transported to LCCF for overnight arraignment. 626
