Will Somebody from the 1960s Take Credit for Being Right The so-called black nationalists of the 1960s used to chide black people for being consumers rather than producers, and pointed to the white mans success at production and his mastery of the free world. Producers, they preached, ruled the world. Consumers got ruled. Today Americans, regardless of race, produce little and consume a lot. And in accordance with the teachings of old, the white man no longer calls the shots. Yet you cannot tell the old heads that they were right because they still see white domination everywhere they look--even in the vacant factories and failed military engagements abroad. Empire and political domination now appear to go hand-in-hand with economic decline and military blunders. Gil-Scot Heron tried to point out the decline over a quarter century ago. https://youtube/watch?v=xSOp507HJMA
