Will the new LG order inquiry? Seven illegal appointments in Tourism Department triggers ripple Port Blair: August 1: At a time, when DRMs/TSMs/Workmen of the Tourism Directorate of the Administration, despite serving the department for more than 18 years, are not considered for regular appointments, the same department has given illegal appointment to a DRM engaged in the DRC Office, New Delhi, who is not only 12 years junior to all these DRMs/TSMs and workmen, but is not even a Islander. Vide Secretariat Order No. 2301, dated 10.07.2013, Shri Pradeep Tyagi and six others were given regular appointments in what could be described as an act of favoritism and by overlooking the seniority list. While Shri Taygi is a Tourism department staff, the other six DRMs are working in Secretariat. Shri Pradeep Tyagi was initially appointed as DRM w.e.f 01.11.2005, for a period of three months and thereafter on time to time basis, was appointed on contract basis. Just to appoint Shri Pradeep Tyagi, the Tourism Department had floated all rules and regulations by keeping aside the seniority list. Even if appointing of six other candidates from backdoor is digested considering the fact that they are Islanders, how would general public digest backdoor entry of a Mainlander? The irony is for these DRMs/TSMs/Workmen, who had given valuable period of their life serving the department, getting a regular appointment for them has become a wait of their life. These junior level staff, engaged by Tourism Department since the period 1993-95, had knocked every doors looking for a ray of hope. They had been running pillars to posts for regular appointments, and finally had to approach the Court of Law. But so far nobody had come forward to help these poor employees. What they had received from their bosses is just assurance and a Lollypop of TSM status with the condition that they had to withdraw their court case first and only after that their case will be considered. It seems, the Tourism department is befooling these DRMs by adopting the method of by hook or crook just to withdraw the court case. It is a known fact that TSM status to DRMs was a onetime arrangement of the Administration and cannot be repeated. People of the islands had great expectations from the new Lt Governor, who had already made it clear that corruptions will not be tolerated at any level. If the Lt. Governor ordered an inquiry into the illegal appointments, all facts will be in the open and all those involved in the illegal appointments can be taken to task. As an act of kindness and humanity, the LG should also order the regularization of all these staff considering their long period of services in the department, as most of them have families and children. Till then the appointment order of all these seven backdoor entry staffs should also be cancelled. Andaman Express is publishing seniority lists of DRMs/TSMs/Workmen who have been serving the Administration for past several years. According to reports, today altogether 65 Sri Lankans reached Hut Bay Island in a small boat, which was drifting in Andaman Sea for nearly a month. Sources believe that these people were going towards Malaysia or Singapore, in search of a good job with the help of international body shopping network. Sadly the engine of their boat broke down and they reached Hut Bay. After villagers intimated police they were brought to Hut Bay Police station. On one had hundreds of foreign nationals are reaching Andaman coast almost every year in engineless dingies, without being detected by Coast Guard and on the other hand Andaman and Nicobar Command is claiming big about coastal security. Is this the reality of Coast Security and our readiness. The CG Chief must clarify that instead of such heavy presence how boat people are reaching Andaman Coast by drifting? Most importantly, where is our Coast Guard? Congress Requests Administrator to Restore Old Tariff for Andaman Guest Houses in Mainland Port Blair, Aug 1: Feeling the nerves of the people of these Islands residing in far flung Islands who stay in the Andaman Guest houses at Kolkata/Chennai or Delhi on urgency, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC wrote a letter to the Lt Governor for considering reducing the tariff in those guest houses. In his letter Mr. Sharma wrote that the A & N Administration, for stay of people of these Islands has constructed guest houses at mainland at Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. He also informed him that the Guest houses have been constructed for the welfare of the people of these Islands and for the people of these Islands who proceed to mainland in case of emergency i.e. for treatment purpose in particular and for proceeding to their native places, admission of their children in colleges or other important matters in general. Mr. Sharma further stated that, as per the present room tariff, a person if allotted a room in Andaman Guest Houses, has to pay Rs. 1000.00 per room per day and in case two persons are occupying the room together then they have to pay Rs. 500.00 per bed each per day. Whereas prior to revision, the tariff used to be Rs. 100/- per bed for non official stay performed by the Islanders at these guest houses. He further added that for people proceeding to mainland for treatment, emergency, admission in colleges or for going to native places or to attend any other important works the room tariff is exorbitant and causes additional undue financial burden on them since the people of these islands are already subjected to heavy cost of journey expenses while moving and coming back from mainland Under these circumstances, Mr. Sharma has requested the Administrator to consider restoring the room tariff to Rs. 100/- per bed per person for a day and incase he is the single occupant of the room he/she may not be charged to pay for both the beds available in a room.
