WilleyWorld Community Productions has set auditions for Auntie Mame, its sixth annual Summer Show, to be presented July 25-27 the weekend before Ottawa’s Riverfest. Walt Willey, co-founder and artistic director of WilleyWorld Community Productions, director Jane Mills, and advisor Mary Morgan will conduct auditions Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13, at 1 p.m., in the basement of the Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 717 Chambers Street in Ottawa. No previous theatrical experience is required. Those interested will be asked to do readings from the script, alone and in combination with others. “Last year’s show, Deathtrap, was presented in a different venue than usual and because of certain limitations, we went with a show with a smaller cast,” said Willey. “This year we are back on the OHS stage with Auntie Mame, a big show featuring a very large cast.” “We’re looking for men and women of all ages, as well as a young man between the ages of 9 and 12 years old,” added Mills. “Some will be “double-cast”, giving them the opportunity to have more time on stage.” “This is a delightful, very funny show with a number of choice featured roles”, Morgan noted. “This will give many people the opportunity to shine! And to work with professional actors including Walt and this year’s guest artist.” Mills pointed out that this is “not Mame, the musical. Auntie Mame is the comedy on which the musical was based, so singing will not be a part of the audition process”. “As we grow and evolve, we find ourselves quickly becoming a sort of regional community theatre and we are very excited to see many new faces from all over Starved Rock Country,” said Willey. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in late-May/early-June, with production dates of Friday, July 25 through July 27. Jane Mills will be assisted in directing by long-time collaborator Maureen Wolfe and stage manager Rachel Hettrick.
