William “Bill” Semmler began publishing The Mokena News - TopicsExpress

William “Bill” Semmler began publishing The Mokena News Bulletin on August 21, 1919 (when the population of the village was around 475 souls). He continued until his death on June 11, 1946 at the age of 59. His wife Margaret and daughters Ada and Adeline continued the publication for over 13 years after his passing. Hard news (such as it was) was always on page one with other news in the last pages. Every birth, death, marriage and even visits to and from town were covered for over 40 years. What a great historic resource! Here one clipping from 1933 to illustrate some of the more mundane events of our sleepy village during the Great Depression.
