William Thomas Arnold b. 1852 in Wakulla Co., FL married Charity Long about 1872 in Orange Co. FL They had four children before she died about 1885. After Charity passed he married Eliza Ellerbee and had two more children. By 1900 they were living at Ft. Basinger and were listed with about 30 other families in the census. Thomas once ran a ferry across the Kissimmee River before the bridge was built on U.S. 98. it was a small motorboat towing a barge that carried Model Ts across the river. He supplemented the family income by working as a blacksmith and wheelwright. Altogether he was the father of six children, most of whom stayed in the Okeechobee area and had children of their own. William Thomas Arnold died in 1923 and is buried at Basinger Cemetery. His children were: Thomas Jefferson (Jesse) Arnold, Amanda M. Arnold, William Eston Arnold, Victoria Arnold, Mary E. Arnold, and Vernon Sylvester Arnold. And this would be our Irene Rowells great great grandfather.
