Willian will join Tottenham rather than Premier League rivals Liverpool, according to media reports in Russia on Tuesday morning. The Brazil international is tipped to complete a £30million move from Anzhi Makhachkala as Tottenham look to take advantage of the Russian club’s desire to trim its astronomical wage bill. Liverpool had been considered favourites to land the 25-year-old attacking midfielder but Sport-Express claim Spurs have beaten the Anfield club to the punch. If the reports are true then it represents the latest blow in a frustrating summer in the transfer market for Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. Early target Henrikh Mkhitaryan opted for Borussia Dortmund while striker Diego Costa signed a new deal at Atletico Madrid despite interest from Anfield.
