“Winning in November” is the theme for the Thursday, October 23rd meeting of the Democratic Club of the Islands beginning at 6:00 at the Sanibel Community House at 2l73 Periwinkle Road. This annual event is held to renew old friendships and welcome new ones who are interested in helping Democrats “Win in November.” Entrée meats and beverages will be provided by the club, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share. This meeting is especially important because within days Floridians will be casting their votes for Governor, as well as a variety of state and local offices. Critical Amendments will also be on the ballot. The Club is honored to have Gerri Ware, President of the Lee County Democratic Black Caucus, who will share her perspective on winning in November.. Joyce Davis, also from the Lee County Black Caucus, is Director of Political Action activities. A native New Jerseyan and life long Democrat, she will share her experience in organizing a major effort to register and get out the vote in Dunbar. Elected Delegate of the Democratic Party for President Obama’s campaign in 2007, she served as President of the Miami-Dade county Democratic Black Caucus. Local and state candidates for election in November will introduce themselves and be available to visit with individuals or answer questions Bob Schaeffer, National Political Consultant, will discuss the Amendments. All members of the Democratic Club are urged to attend as well as members of the public who are interested in supporting progressive politics, or want to become informed voters. The Thursday, October 23rd meeting is free and open to the public. The Democratic Club is organized to stimulate interest in governmental affairs, to educate the public about issues, and to support the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party. Anyone wishing to join the Democratic Club of the Islands is asked to bring a check for $25 to DCI to the October Pot Luck.
